Phu Quoc Boats

The fishing Boats of Phu Quoc Island, Viet Nam, are many and varied. As at 2011, here are still active boatbuilders working there. from larger yards, such as those at Duong Dong, which still build and service the larger deeper sea boats, to the village boat builder who builds the smaller fishing boats the villagers still rely on to live. These smaller craft are still being made in the traditional way using the traditional methods, and are direct decendants of the larger sailing craft which have all but disappeared.

Larger fishing Boats awaiting Maintenance at Duong Dong.

Circular woven bamboo boat.

Used for many tasks, from getting out to larger boats to fishing the near shoreline. Now use is fairly universal everywhere in Viet Nam.
